Clean Tourist City Standard

This document is based on the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard. It aims to improve the experience of visitors and residents in cities such as Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Pakse, Vang Vieng, Luang Namtha, Savannaketh and others.

What you need to know 

  1. Certification will be coordinated by the National Steering Committee for the Clean Tourist City Standard
  2. Cities are able to apply at any time (there are no restrictions on the number of cities)
  3. Provincial Steering Committees carry out the assessment and report to the National Steering Committee
  4. The National Steering Committee visits the city and conducts its own assessment
  5. The National and Provincial Steering Committees approve the final result of assessment
  6. The National Steering Committee will award the certificate and plaque to the successful city
  7. The certificate is valid for three (3) years
  8. The awarded cities will be reassessed every 3 years

Option 1: On-line Application forms and submit documents via website

  • Step 1: Responsible organization download the self-assessment form
  • Step 2: Responsible organization undertakes a self-assessment by using the downloaded self-assessment form (Please consult with the relevant department of Provincial DICT or MICT for more advice)
  • Step 3: Responsible organization submits the application from and the self-assessment form and attachments on line via website 
  • Step 4: Responsible organization waits for a response from Provincial DICT or MICT (within 1-3 weeks) by phone and email and online 
  • Step 5: ASEAN Tourism standards certification boards and assessors visit the place and undertake assessment/audit at the appointed time 
  • Step 6: Notify the assessment/audit results to the Responsible organization (within 1-3 weeks) by phone and email and online 
  • Step 7: Give the award and the ASEAN tourism standard certificate

  • Step 1 Responsible organization download the application form and the self-assessment form 
  • Step 2: Responsible organization undertakes a self-assessment by using the downloaded self-assessment form (Please consult with the relevant department of Provincial DICT or MICT for more advice) 
  • Step 3: Responsible organization submits the application from and the self-assessment form and attachments at the Provincial DICT or MICT 
  • Step 4: Responsible organization waits for a response from Provincial DICT or MICT (within 1-3 weeks) by phone and email. 
  • Step 5: ASEAN Tourism standards certification boards and assessors visit the place and undertake assessment/audit at the appointed time

  • Step 7: Give the award and the ASEAN tourism standard certificate

  • Approved Clean Tourist Cities will receive preferential support for domestic and international marketing and training activities.
